The Truck Always Knows Before The Driver Does.

More things change, more they remain the same. Every year the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways publishes its accident report. Every year the number one killer on Indian roads is the same thing: overspeeding. The 2024 report — released this year — puts it at nearly 70% of the 1.77 lakh people India lost on the road last year. That's 485 deaths a day. Almost 20 an hour.

None of this is a new problem. What's changed is that the truck itself now knows, in real time, when something is wrong — long before the driver, the transporter, or the shipper finds out the hard way.

FOUR WARNINGS, ONE TRUCK

Talk to any fleet safety head and four risks come up, in some order, every single time: overspeeding, night driving, continuous driving, and what the industry quietly calls "free running" — coasting in neutral to save a little diesel. Four different problems, one shared trait: the vehicle has data on all four before anyone in an office does.

OVERSPEEDING is the obvious one, and the deadliest by a wide margin — MoRTH's own number, not ours. A vehicle crosses the configured limit for that lane or that zone, and GPS catches it the moment it happens, not three weeks later when a challan turns up in the post.

NIGHT DRIVING gets talked about less, but the reasons are not mysterious — poor visibility, tired eyes, badly lit highways, wildlife and potholes that show up half a second too late in headlights. A trip running after dark carries a different risk profile than the same route at noon, and the system tags it as one.

CONTINUOUS DRIVING is the one every long-haul driver in India will tell you about if you ask. Twelve to sixteen hours behind the wheel on a single trip is routine, not rare — mostly because proper rest stops on Indian highways are still the exception. Cross six hours without a break and the fatigue risk stops being theoretical. Hawkeye flags it at that six-hour mark, before the eyes start closing, not after.

FREE RUNNING is the one people ask about the most, because it sounds like a made-up term. It isn't. It means the driver is coasting in neutral, engine disengaged, to stretch fuel a little further — an old habit, still common on Indian highways, and it means less control of the vehicle at exactly the moment more of it is needed. OBD data flags this the second it happens, not from a fuel-efficiency report at month-end.

THE SEVERITY INDEX

Detecting an event is the easy half. What happens next is where most Control Towers quietly give up. We are still on a journey to learn even after twenty years in this business — that's probably still our biggest differentiator over anyone building this fresh. So here's the honest version, not the pitch-deck version: this does not stop every accident. Fatigue doesn't disappear because a system is watching. Bad roads stay bad. Traffic stays traffic.

What changes is a narrower, more specific thing — whether a driver finds out something is wrong alone, at night, six hours into a shift, or whether WebXpress already knows and has already called. That's the whole claim. Nothing more, nothing less.
